StakeholdersThis is a featured page

Who are the stakeholders--individual, business institutions, and society who initiate and control the IT developments and are effected by them? For each category, define and describe who the stakeholders are and why they are considered stakeholders in this case study.

Individual Stakeholders:

Hector Bryrne
based in Adelaide, Australia
International Fund Manager
Hector initiates the IT development because he basically wants the ability to work better and more efficiently away from home. Hector is affected by the IT developments because they allow him to work around the globe. Hector's situation is interconnected with all of the other stakeholders because the affects that the IT developments have on him also affect those around him. For example: His family is affected because if he can work more efficiently overseas then he might spend more time travelling His clients are affected because if he can travel more he becomes more available to them The above also applies to the other N & Q offices around the world However with more technology the government is also affected because of the protocols and procedures that are placed on electrical devices such as PDAs, laptops and cell-phones.
Betty Gonzalez
Similar job description as Hector
Regional manager--Buenos Aires
She is the regional manager in Buenos Aires. She is from a different country where they speak another language; this is a very serious issue, because it can lead to various problems as communication and misunderstanding of words which can have more than two meanings; especially if they are translated by using web translators. Translators have huge disadvantages because they might translate paragraphs by translating word by word without keeping in mind that some words have double meanings and don't work when they are translated; for example in Spanish. I think that if Betty uses translators she is not going to be able to understand what Hector is trying to tell her; leading to confusion.
Other Colleagues from N & Q
The other stakeholders which are affected, such as Hector's clients because a lot of data and information is being translated from one language to another (English-Spanish, Russian-English and others) resulting in possible interpretation issues; therefore making clients not able to get legitimate data. N & Q offices are also affected because there are a lot of languages being spoken around the world and there are a lot of people who really don't understand English.

Globalization is the main ethical issue that is involved in this case, it requires people around the world to start learning english to be able to share ideas. N & Q enterprise will open new offices in countries such as India, Russia and China where people speak different languages and to succeed they need to be able to communicate in one common language to avoid misunderstandings. Miscommunication could result in unreliable information being processed which is a key component needed to be addressed. Since the firm is involves investment activity, stakeholders cannot afford any acts of miscommunication. In this case direct stakeholders could possibly be the clients from distant countries who have a higher fluency rate in their native tongue as oppose to the one they use to communicate with their N & Q Investment official. Resultant acts of miscommunications may occur and thus creating financial problems. The level of trust built up by Investment groups with their clients have to be of a high standard, and therefore a possible solution to this situation will be the inclusion of a translator in meetings between clients and their insurance provider. The translator may come in different forms, be it a human representitive or a technological piece of equipment digitally translating words. This cultural divide should be addressed especially in firms such as investment corporations.
